Last night I was away playing football in Spain. The fort was held brilliantly by Pete, Paul. Sacha and Tuck Man Steve although as usual they did their best to make the cupboard as untidy as possible just to upset me. Back to normal lessons next week in the Hall.
Very pleased to inform everyone that we have been given funding to buy 2 x Chess Up 2s to help our beginner and intermediate players. Although some of our first team players seem to like playing against it too.
We have recently hooked up with another junior club from over the hill and have matches planned for 16 April at home and 29th May away. - should be fun.
Pleased to say that recently we have had a host of new members recently plus a few returners George, Shlok and Veer. We can always cope with more so feel free to invite your family and friends regardless of ability
In honour of the 10th World Champion Boris Spassky who passed away recently I showed his positional masterpiece from when he was a mere 11 years old. I also gave the audience a brief overview as to what made him a chess legend.
Matches continue to be played every week now with last week seeing us beat 3Cs 4-2 to consolidate our position in B Division in the Manchester League. A hard fought draw away at East Cheshire this week saw us stay top of A Division in the Stockport League.
The EJCOA event we hosted last Sunday was a great success where 37 players entered. William and Sithun from the club qualified for the finals in July. Thanks go to our Senior Arbiter, Sacha for his efforts on the day that kept all running smoothly.
