7 October

Tonight we looked at the classic game Alekhine v Yated from London 1922. It features lots of things to avoid when playing chess such as weak pawns, inactive pieces and exposed King.

26 August

Tonight we looked at the game Adams v Quillan demonstrating the power of opposite coloured Bishops in attack.

19 August

Tonight we looked at the classic hanging pawns game Karpov v Smyslov from 1981 which featured how Karpov cleverly traded an old advantage for a new one to win a very fine game with some neat tactics.

12 August

Tonight as well as some tactics puzzles we looked at William's last round win from the British U12 Championship. Whilst there were errors on both sides it featured some lovely attacking control by White.

5 August

Tonight we looked at the game Edward Lasker v Englund which featured some great tactics and demonstrated why a lack of development in chess can be a real disaster. What was strange about this game is that it featured the same moves as a game from 1865 between Zukertort and Anderssen which also finished in a crushing win for White - it pays to study the games of the old masters.
